New Law Permits PAs to Provide Hospice Care to Medicare Patients

This morning, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law two improvements to Medicare that represent significant victories for PAs and the patients they serve. The first improvement will allow PAs to manage and provide hospice care to terminally-ill Medicare patients; another will allow PAs to supervise cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs under the Medicare program.

On Nov. 20, the New York Times ran a story that both the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) and the Society for Dermatology PAs (SDPA) found misleading and one-sided. AAPA President and the SDPA President submitted a joint letter to the editor providing feedback on the piece.

AAPA Responds to NCCPA PANRE Alternative Pilot Process

The National Commission on the Certification of PAs (NCCPA) announced its upcoming pilot program to test an alternative to the Physician Assistant National Recertifying Exam (PANRE) set to begin in January 2019 for PAs who otherwise would be required to take the PANRE in 2018 or 2019.

AAPA Board Takes Action on Recertification Issues

Decisions were made after a deliberative process that included a comprehensive review of the complex and time-intensive requirements to stand up a new organization, extensive feedback from members, and rigorous financial analysis.
