COVID-19 Leads to Slight Dip in Annual Physician Assistant Compensation

After years of steady growth, PA median compensation decreased slightly in 2020, falling from $111,000 in 2019 to $110,000 due in part to reduced hourly wages resulting from COVID-19, according to the 2021 AAPA Salary Report. AAPA released a digital version of its salary report today; the full report will be available in July.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released new buprenorphine practice guidelines providing an exemption to the requirement for PAs to obtain 24 hours of training prior to treating patients with buprenorphine – a major barrier to treatment for PA patients.

DAPA Secures Top Legislative Priority, Two Seats on State Medical Board

Delaware Gov. John Carney recently signed HB 33, An Act to Amend Title 24 of the Delaware Code Relating to Physician Assistants. The legislation was the top legislative priority for the Delaware Academy of PAs and will create two PA seats on the Delaware medical board.
