PAs Asked to Encourage v-safe Use Among COVID-19 Vaccine Recipients

Smartphone-based Tool Uses Texts to Give Health Check-ins After COVID-19 Vaccine

November 5, 2021

CDC is requesting that PAs and other vaccine providers encourage vaccine recipients to register in v-safe, CDC’s new after vaccination health checker. CDC relies on vaccine providers to recommend v-safe because they are a trusted point of contact with patients.

PAs can provide a v-safe information sheet at the time of vaccination and encourage patients to register during the 15-minute observation period. The information sheet explains what v-safe is and provides step-by-step instructions on how to sign up. Vaccine recipients can use the QR code or URL on the information sheet to sign up at their convenience.

What can you do?

  • Inform vaccine providers about v-safe and their role in promoting its use by sharing the v-safe information below
  • Distribute the v-safeinformation sheet to vaccine providers. V-safe posters are also available to promote v-safe at vaccination sites and serve as a reminder for providers.

V-safe information for vaccine recipients
COVID-19 vaccine safety continues to be a top priority at CDC. V-safe, a new, smartphone-based tool, is one of several systems CDC relies on to monitor vaccine safety. V-safe is easy to use and allows users to report how they’re feeling after vaccination. Participants can register in v-safe after any dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and it’s available in five languages – English, Korean, simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

CDC recently added two important features to v-safe:
1. Parents or guardians can now enroll children ages 5-17 who received the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine (COMIRNATY) vaccine.
2. People who have already been vaccinated can enter an additional dose of vaccine

CDC will continue to update v-safe to reflect future COVID-19 vaccine eligibility announcements, and any other official announcements that involve changes or updates to COVID-19 vaccines.
