Missouri Becomes 27th State to Join the PA Licensure Compact

July 16, 2026

Missouri has officially joined the PA Licensure Compact, opening the door to multistate practice for the state’s more than 1,850 PAs!

Governor Mike Kehoe signed HB 2974 into law on July 13, making Missouri the 27th state entering the compact. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Jamie Burger (R-Benton) and supported by the Missouri Academy of PAs (MOAPA), stemmed from a commitment made in the state’s Rural Health Transformation Program application to implement a licensure compact for PAs, among other healthcare professions.

In a state with large rural footprints, streamlining the path for PAs to practice across state lines, whether in-person or via telehealth, is critical for both patients and PAs alike, allowing for quicker access to care and a more flexible workforce to be utilized where it is needed most.

With Missouri’s enactment, more than half of the country is now part of the PA Licensure Compact, continuing the steady, state-by-state momentum building over the last few years.

The PA Compact Commission, the intergovernmental agency responsible for the administration of the compact, anticipates that PAs will be able to begin utilizing PA Licensure Compact privileges by early-to-mid 2027.
