Efforts to make it easier for physician assistants to practice in multiple states are gaining traction, boosting opportunities to recruit and retain both medical professionals and patients.

In efforts to promote modernizing health care laws, the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) sent a letter to the American Medical Association (AMA) to cease the campaign that disparages the contributions of other health care providers.

On July 24 at the Littleton Community House, Gov. Chris Sununu joined state Rep. David Rochefort, R-Littleton, to sign into law House Bill 1222, relative to the scope of practice for physician assistants.

A dozen states have joined a compact to give physician assistants a universal license. It’s not a complete solution for the shortage of primary-care doctors, but it should help.
