Childhood Vaccine Recommendations Must Be Grounded in Scientific Evidence and Medical Expertise
Alexandria, VA – August 10, 2026 – American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) President and Chair of the Board of Directors David J. Bunnell, PhD, PA-C, DFAAPA, issued the following statement in response to the executive order, “Delivering Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations for Americans.”
“PAs across the country care for children and families every day, including helping patients make informed decisions about vaccination. Those conversations depend on clear, consistent guidance rooted in the best available scientific evidence.
AAPA strongly believes that significant changes to longstanding childhood immunization recommendations must be grounded in rigorous scientific evidence and the expertise of qualified medical professionals. Departing from established recommendations without that foundation risks creating unnecessary confusion for families and healthcare providers. It will also erode trust in vaccines that have safely protected generations of Americans from preventable disease.
AAPA supports evidence-based immunization guidance and believes vaccine recommendations should be guided by rigorous scientific evidence, transparent review, and the expertise of qualified medical professionals.
