The Physician Associate Foundation (PAF) offers two funding opportunities annually. On July 14, the second 2025 funding cycle opens.
Interested PAs can apply or nominate a colleague or peer for the following grants and awards: the IMPACT Grant program, the Josanne Kissel Pagel PAs in Administration Award, the William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Award, and new in 2025, the William H. Marquardt Precepting/Mentorship Award. Below are brief descriptions of each funding opportunity.

Through the IMPACT Grant program, PAF seeks to support patient-centered, community-based health projects within the United States and its territories that demonstrate an impact on patient health outcomes.

The 2024 IMPACT Grant was awarded to the James Madison University PA Student Society for its project titled “Healthcare for the Homeless Suitcase Clinic – Improving Access to Health and Wellness,” led by Jordan André, PA-S, and Sharon Maiewski, PA-C. It focuses on improving access to routine medical, dental, vision, and behavioral healthcare for shelter residents and improving access to prevention and wellness resources. In 2025, the PAs in Orthopaedic Surgery Foundation is supporting an additional project category focused on orthopaedic care. Up to $10,000 of funding will be available for PA-led projects/programs that focus on increasing patient access to orthopaedic care in underserved areas and improving orthopaedic-related patient outcomes.

Established by Josanne Pagel, MPAS, PA-C, DFAAPA, the Josanne Kissel Pagel PAs in Administration Award aims to benefit, encourage, and support PAs presently serving in clinical administrative positions in health systems who are focused on enhancing their administrative skills, as well as dedicated to promoting opportunities for other PAs in pursuing administrative roles in health systems and/or medical practices.

Braxton Kinsey, PA-C, of Durham, NC, received this award in 2024. As Practice Medical Director at Duke Primary Care Oxford, he leads a multidisciplinary team and has collaborated with other leaders to support the evolution of a Rural Track Residency Program. Learn more about previous awardees >>
This award is intended to help fund the recipient’s attendance at the AAPA Executive Leadership Conference (ELC) in the subsequent year to facilitate networking with other future executive administrators.

The William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Award (formerly “Fellowship”), established by William H. “Bill” Marquardt, MA, PA-C Emeritus, DFAAPA, aims to recognize PAs dedicated to promoting accessible primary and preventative healthcare among underserved populations.
In 2024, four PAs received this award for their work in enhancing access to primary care in their communities: Donald Clark, PA-C; Johanna Greenberg, PA-C, MPAS; Fartun Jama, PA-C, MSPAS; and Jona Tanguay, MMSc, PA-C, AAHIVS.

To be considered, individuals must have an employment or volunteer history reflecting a strong focus in primary care and/or preventative medicine and demonstrate a history of work with underserved populations.

New
William H. Marquardt Precepting/Mentorship AwardLaunching in 2025 through additional support from PA Marquardt, the William H. Marquardt Precepting/Mentorship Award aims to recognize PAs serving in precepting, adjunct faculty, and/or mentorship roles. Four awards in the amount of $2,500 will be distributed.
To be considered, individuals must currently serve in a precepting, adjunct faculty, and/or mentorship role, have at least three years of experience in a precepting/mentoring role, and demonstrate strong commitment to precepting and/or mentorship.
