Celebrating an outstanding contribution to PA philanthropy and service
May 19, 2025

William H. “Bill” Marquardt, MA, PA-C Emeritus, DFAAPA, has dedicated nearly 50 years to advancing access to primary and preventive healthcare. A steadfast supporter of the Physician Associate Foundation (PAF) since 1997, he is the largest individual donor in PAF’s history.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been happy to be able to support several PA Foundation programs and support students,” said PA Marquardt. “The future of the PA profession remains bright.”
During AAPA 2025’s Main Stage Event, AAPA and PAF proudly recognized PA Marquardt for his extraordinary generosity and his unwavering commitment to empowering PAs to improve community health and patient care.
“PA Marquardt’s investment in the next generation of healthcare providers ensures that his vision will carry forward, improving the health of communities for years to come,” said Jeffrey Katz, PA-C, DFAAPA, President of the Physician Associate Foundation Board of Trustees.
In 2019, PA Marquardt established two endowed programs with PAF: The William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Scholarship and The William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Fellowship.
The William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Scholarship supports PA students dedicated to promoting accessible primary and preventive healthcare among underserved populations. Since its launch, the scholarship has been awarded to 18 PA students, with four more recipients set to be announced. These future PAs come from diverse backgrounds and regions, but all share a deep dedication to improving healthcare access for those who need it most.

The William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Fellowship recognizes PAs with a passion for expanding access to primary care services among underserved populations. The fellowship has recognized 18 practicing PAs to date, with the next application cycle opening in July 2025.
Recently, PA Marquardt announced an expansion of his endowment, allowing for additional scholarships and fellowships, along with a new award specifically for PA preceptors. Thanks to his generosity, PAF will distribute $30,000 annually to support students and practicing PAs in their mission to bring primary care to more communities. “I welcome all to join me in supporting PA students and PA education and to those who mentor them throughout the learning process and beyond.”
Through his dedication to mentorship, education, and healthcare accessibility, PA Marquardt’s impact will be felt for generations to come. His commitment to investing in PAs and their ability to serve diverse patient populations will leave a lasting impact on community health.
