Meet the Inaugural Recipients of the Michael Powe Leadership in Advocacy Scholarship

Scholarship Awarded to PA Student Advocates and Leaders

September 4, 2024

In May, AAPA announced the creation of the Michael Powe Leadership in Advocacy Scholarship for future PA leaders. Michael Powe, AAPA’s former vice president of reimbursement and professional advocacy, retired this year after more than 30 years working on behalf of the PA profession. This scholarship was created to ensure his service and commitment to the organization and the PA profession are remembered.

Each year, this scholarship will be awarded to up to five PA students who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to advocacy work on behalf of the PA profession. Candidates will have a proven track record of maintaining academic excellence while actively engaging in initiatives that drive positive change for the profession as a whole, and must demonstrate leadership, collaboration skills, and a clear vision for their future advocacy efforts.

The purpose of this scholarship is to enable the recipients to attend AAPA’s Leadership and Advocacy Summit (LAS). For students, LAS is a crucial opportunity to network, build leadership skills, and learn about the fundamentals of advocating on behalf of patients and the profession.

AAPA is pleased to announce the inaugural recipients of the Michael Powe Leadership in Advocacy Scholarship, and celebrates the achievements of these student leaders and advocates.
