There are several ways to be involved in the HOD with or without being a delegate. You can review the descriptions for these opportunities below.
Standing Rules Committee (SRC)
Help review and refine the Standing Rules to ensure alignment with bylaws, improve efficiency, and address directives from the House Speakers.

Charges:
- Review the Standing Rules for:
- Any conflicts based on bylaws and policies passed during the previous year’s HOD meeting
- Any perceived inefficiencies or clarifications needed to facilitate the work of the HOD
- Any specific charges by the Speaker of the House
- Submit a report of proposed recommendations for consideration by delegates at the next HOD meeting
Time Commitment:
- 5-10 hours of virtual meetings and offline policy review
Experience:
- Understanding of Governance and Parliamentary Procedure
- Familiarity with bylaws, standing rules, and procedural frameworks
- Ability to review, interpret, and revise complex documents with precision
- Familiarity with the House of Delegates (HOD) structure and its role in AAPA preferred but not required

House Policy Review Committee (HPRC)
Play a vital role in shaping AAPA policy by reviewing assigned policies in consultation with leadership, constituent organizations, and subject matter experts. Volunteers will help develop resolutions and recommendations for consideration at the 2026 House of Delegates meeting.

Charges:
- Review current AAPA policies assigned by the House Officers consulting with other leadership groups, Constituent Organizations, or subject matter experts
- Review PAs representation throughout AAPA’s policy manual
- Submit resolutions/recommendations on each assigned policy for the 2026 HOD
Time Commitment:
- 5-10 hours of virtual meetings and offline policy review
Experience:
- Experience reviewing, drafting, or revising organizational policies
- Ability to assess policy implications for the PA profession
- Proficiency in articulating policy recommendations and rationale
- Familiarity with the House of Delegates (HOD) structure and its role in AAPA preferred but not required

Designation for Excellence Task Force (joint with AAPA’s Board of Directors)
Join other fellow members, student members, HOD delegates, and early career PAs to fulfill HOD resolution 2025-B-16: “The HOD requests that a joint task force be formed to research and explore the development of criteria for awarding a designation to institutions of excellence in utilization of PAs to report back to the 2026 HOD.”

Time Commitment:
- The work of the task force is estimated to take one year to complete. A report will be due to the HOD and Board of Directors in May 2026.

Governance Review Task Force (joint with AAPA’s Board of Directors)
Join other fellow members, student members, HOD delegates, and early career PAs to fulfill HOD resolution 2024-A-07: “AAPA shall create a task force appointed by the Board of Directors and House of Delegates to review the existing governance structure to assess whether it meets the needs of the membership. Pertinent topics include but are not limited to: Board of Directors’ composition/size, regionalization and constituent representation, transparency & function of the House of Delegates, related to the ability to represent the PA profession and all PAs.”

Charges:
- Review the existing governance structure of the AAPA to assess whether it meets the needs of the membership. This review should include:
- Development and deployment of a request for proposal to seek an external consultant to perform a review of the governance structures of at least 5 similar medical professional organizations and how the AAPA structure compares. These elements could include key issues pertaining to the following:
- Past AAPA governance structures and review when and if possible, from HOD documents, why changes were made
- Board of Directors composition and size
- Consideration of a regional and/or CO representation on the Board versus the current general representation
- Transparency & function of the House of Delegates
- HOD’s ability to represent the PA profession and all PAs
- Development and deployment of a request for proposal to seek an external consultant to perform a review of the governance structures of at least 5 similar medical professional organizations and how the AAPA structure compares. These elements could include key issues pertaining to the following:
- Review the information gathered from the external review for consideration of any potential additional areas of study or gaps in information needed by the committee to make any recommendations appropriate to the future state of the AAPA’s governance.
- Report on findings to the House of Delegates and Board of Directors, including any recommendations for further action.
Time Commitment:
- The work of the task force is estimated to take two years to complete. An interim report will be due to the HOD and Board of Directors in May 2026.
