This program will focus on practical strategies that can be implemented in the first year of treatment to successfully assess, diagnose, counsel, and treat patients affected by obesity. The importance of recognizing obesity as a chronic, progressive disease will be highlighted in a section on pathophysiology followed by specific clinical pearls for performing a detailed history and obesity-specific physical exam, counseling on nutrition and physical activity, and prescribing anti-obesity medications. Finally, detailed information on initiating conversations with patients regarding obesity, appropriate patient-centered communication, and assessing readiness will be provided.
