The Perceived Intersection of Parenting and Physician Assistant Training Among Current Physician Assistant Students

This study sought to explore the perceptions of support for, and impact on, family planning and parenting, including lactation, among PA students (PA-S). This study suggests few PA-S are aware of programs and resources available within their programs and felt pressure to wait until after training to have children.

PA Students Career Interests in 2022

Seven out of 10 PA students were interested in working in education at some point during their career and 49.5% were interested in leadership opportunities.With the continued growth of PA programs, there be an ever-increasing need for PAs to serve as faculty whether on staff or as adjunct.[1]  There is an opportunity to get PA students interested in PA education during their education and to continue to keep them engaged after they graduate and become PAs.

Insights into PAs Experience with Influenza Vaccines

Vaccination plays an important role in reducing the spread of influenza and the likelihood of experiencing severe complications from a case of the flu. To evaluate their practice behaviors, a retrospective recall of PAs on the vaccination rates of their patients in key age groups,  such as patients aged 65 or older, found similar results as nationwide influenza vaccination coverage rates. Future research is needed to identify how PAs with limited access to multiple formulations of the influenza vaccination implement the ACIP dosing and formulation recommendations across various patient groups.

Insights into PAs’ Experiences Working with Patients with Obesity

Insights into PAs’ Experiences Working with Patients with Obesity: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Barriers to Care is a data brief from the AAPA. Data for the 2022 AAPA Treatment of Obesity Survey were collected from March 21 through April 3, 2022. Almost all PAs are working with patients with obesity, even if it is not a health condition they are evaluating or treating. Two out of three PAs (69%) indicated that 26% or more of their patients have a formal diagnosis of obesity and one out of four (28%) indicated that 51% or more had a formal diagnosis of obesity.
