PA leans in, embraces challenges, and expands care

Experience has taught PA Ratna Kanumury that having more than one pair of eyes on a patient can be tremendously beneficial. As director of PA services for the Cook County Health and Hospitals System (CCHHS) in Illinois, she serves a dual role splitting her time between administrative duties and treating patients at Woodlawn Health Center, a safety net public health clinic on Chicago’s South Side where many residents live in deep poverty.

Why I applied for a National Health Service Corps scholarship

In order to detail my reasons for applying for this wonderful scholarship, I must first define what led me to the profession. One of the main reasons I chose to become a PA was to help those in need of medical care, specifically the populations that may have little to no access to these resources. I then gained acceptance into Touro University Nevada’s PA program, where I found that I fit perfectly, since their motives of helping the undeserved related to my own.

An American PA in the UK

The New England Journal of Medicine features a guest blog post by PA Megan Tetlow, from Fort Myers, Fla., who is working in Sheffield, England, as part of the UK's National Physician Associate Expansion Program. She practices in gynecologic oncology.  Tetlow writes that she's always dreamed about living and working in another country, and now she wants to share what she's learned with other PAs.

Puerto Rico: The final frontier for PA licensure

Josue Droz, PA-C, always wanted to return home. Born in Puerto Rico, he was a child when his family moved to the continental United States. “It’s always been my heart’s desire to move back here,” he says. So after he became a PA, he joined the movement to bring PA legislation to the island.
