Overview

As announced in the Speaker’s January Update, the 2021 House of Delegates (HOD) Meeting will be conducted virtually from Thursday, May 20 through Saturday, May 22 with the final session occurring on Monday, May 24. This virtual meeting of the HOD will include the usual components of an in-person HOD such as reference committee hearings, amendments being proposed, and voting. In addition to considering bylaws and policy resolutions, the HOD Elections will also be held to elect three House Officer positions and three Nominating Work Group positions. All resources, tools, and materials will be available under the tabs to the left.

The House Officers made a motion to close this meeting to only allow AAPA members/staff and HOD Official Observers to join. Delegates voted between March 12-14 and passed the motion. View the certified results.

Title Change Investigation

Title Change Investigation

At the May 2018 AAPA House of Delegates meeting, a resolution passed requesting that the AAPA Board of Directors (BOD) “contract with an appropriate independent consulting/research firm(s) to investigate state/federal, financial, political, branding aspects, and alternatives to the creation of a new professional title for physician assistants that accurately reflects AAPA professional practice policies. . . .”

In September 2018, AAPA hired WPP/Landor, a global marketing, communications, and research firm with expertise in healthcare, to conduct this comprehensive investigation.

The two questions driving the independent research were:

  1. Is there a need to evolve the PA brand based on an objective, well-informed, data and analysis-driven view of where it stands today?
  2. And if so, how do we redefine how the PA profession is positioned, how its value is conveyed, and how it is titled to meet the requirements of tomorrow’s healthcare landscape?

WPP/Landor provided a preliminary status report of their work to the 2019 AAPA House of Delegates.

The final presentations from WPP/Landor, Foley & Lardner, and AAPA were given at the 2020 Virtual AAPA HOD Meeting.

PAEA, NCCPA, and ARC-PA, the other national PA organizations, will be affected by any title change that PAs decide to pursue. Each organization has prepared a report on the impact of a potential title change on their respective organizations and constituencies.
