Updates on Guidelines in the Management of Patients with T2D and Cardiovascular Disease: Implications from CVOTs on Practice Recommendations

Carolyn Telford, MPAS, PA-C

Carolyn Telford has been a PA for 31 years, graduating from UT Southwestern’s PA program in 1989. She spent the majority of her career in primary care and internal medicine and has broad experience treating primary care patients and the multitude of disease states that primary care entails. She also has experience teaching PA students at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, precepting students in Texas and in Oklahoma, managing a rural health clinic, and participating on multiple patient care committees, as well as holding various professional volunteer positions within PA organizations.

She currently holds the position of Medical Science Liaison within AstraZeneca and enjoys holding scientific conversations and teaching providers about new science and treatment changes within the cardiometabolic area.

Suren Sivarajah, MD

Suren Sivarajah, MD, is currently the medical director at AstraZeneca in the Cardiovascular and Metabolism Division. He completed his undergraduate studies at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Penn., and graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Sivarajah received his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Penn., where he also completed his internal medicine residency and a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism.

Prior to this, he was a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he worked in the outpatient clinic in the Diabetes Care Center for 19 years, managing complex patients. He also served as a sub-investigator in their Clinical Trials Program. He graduated from the Hahnemann University PA Program in 1991.

Prior to joining AstraZeneca, Dr. Sivarajah served as the Diabetes Director at Penn State College of Medicine. In this role, he provided oversight on all diabetes-related clinical and scholarly activity, with a focus on delivering optimal integrated diabetes treatment across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care. Dr. Sivarajah also worked with medical students, residents, and fellows to improve diabetes education and scholarly activity.

One of Dr. Sivarajah’s passions is teaching medical students, medical residents, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and advanced practitioners. He has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He has received numerous teaching awards. In 2016, he was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award at Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He is an active member of Endocrine Society, ADA (American Diabetes Association) and AACE (American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists).
