AAPA is pleased to announce that 18 state and territorial chapters have been awarded advocacy grants to modernize PA legislation in 2020. The funds for these grants, which totaled $800,000, were approved by the Board of Directors as part of AAPA’s 2020 budget. Of this total, approximately $600,000 has been allocated in this round of funding to support these legislative efforts.
Chapters will use these funds on advocacy and communications efforts to advance Optimal Team Practice (OTP); to adopt one of AAPA’s Six Key Elements of a Modern PA Practice Act; or to achieve another substantive improvement to laws or regulations, such as allowing PAs to be responsible for the care they provide, or changing the term “supervision” to “collaboration” to more accurately reflect how PAs work with physicians.
Along with the funding provided, AAPA staff will be working closely with these chapters, providing additional support on advocacy and communications strategies and tactics.
