About Committees and Councils

AAPA Committee and Council Service - Get Involved

With just a small time commitment, your ideas and opinions could affect the entire physician assistant profession. Do you want to influence and improve the delivery of health care? affect how PAs practice? network with peers and national leaders of other health care professions? find out how policy is made and why? strengthen the organization? make a difference? change our PA world? Thanks to the AAPA Personal & Professional Development Program, shaping the future of the profession - has never been easier.

AAPA's standing committees and councils meet just two or three times a year (travel, lodging, and related expenses are reimbursed) to analyze, evaluate, and recommend new programs and policies and to handle tasks from the House of Delegates. Between meetings, conference calls (also reimbursed) ensure minimal interference with busy work schedules.

Committees and Councils are composed of two to ten AAPA members; chairs are appointed by AAPA's President and Speaker of the House of Delegates in consultation with the current committee or council chair. Volunteer leaders work on thought -provoking, fast-tracked programs and projects. Affecting change in a supportive and nurturing environment, you may discover untapped talents for research, professional writing, public speaking, or management. Whatever you undertake, you'll enjoy countless networking opportunities and expert support from AAPA's professional staff.

What to Expect

  • Two to three weekend meetings a year, usually at AAPA's national office
  • One mandatory meeting in late July at PA Leadership Summit in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
  • Scheduled conference calls between meetings
  • Regular e-mail communication
  • Expert professional staff support
  • Reimbursed expenses, including travel, lodging, food, and telephone

Get involved now. You'll make a difference. You'll have fun. And you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you're not one of those people who just drifts while the world changes.

To get started, take a moment to discover which committee or council would most interest you, complete and submit an application. The application deadline (March 15) will be publicized in the AAPA News and at http://www.aapa.org/toolbox/postings.html.

With every new year the committees and councils are expected to create Key Results that focus the actions of the group throughout the year.  Links to these will be added after Leadership Summit.

In addition, each committee and council is responsible for presenting its accomplishments in an Annual Report to the House of Delegates (HOD).  The 2008 HOD Annual Report for each committee or council is linked in the individual descriptions below.
