Constituent
Organization Mentoring Program
The
word mentoring is derived from a Greek word meaning "enduring."
Mentoring is a sustained relationship between a more experienced
individual and a novice. The mentor brings support, guidance, and
assistance to his or her protégé. The protégé in turn helps the
mentor by serving as a mirror for how the mentor practices. Formal
one-on-one mentoring programs have been shown to increase the success
of the protégé and enhance the mentor's practice.
You are about to embark on an exciting leadership opportunity as
either a mentor or protégé. By formalizing a mentor/protégé relationship,
you will foster student leadership growth and increase the leadership
base in your constituent chapter, in your community, and in the
PA profession.
Remember
that you may be mentoring a future constituent organization committee
chair, AAPA president, or maybe a state representative to Congress.
With that in mind, please make this a fun experience while taking
the goals and objectives seriously.
Once
you have identified your mentor/protégé, you can download the latest
version of the
Please feel free to copy this handbook and customize for your own
situation.
The handbook outlines specific
tasks, objectives, qualifications, time commitments, and benefits
of the program. It includes contract and evaluation forms. You will
be e-mailed an evaluation form of the program six months from today.
We ask that you complete the evaluation for our own knowledge and
continued quality improvement of the mentoring module. All evaluations
are confidential.
Good luck on this exciting
journey!
