PA Personal and Professional Development

Physician Assistants exercise leadership skills in all levels of their personal and professional lives - in their clinical practices, volunteer organizations, families, and community outreach. Recognizing this, the AAPA Leadership and Professional Development Council manages the PA Toolbox to provide you with the resources or tools that you need to enhance your development.

Leadership Commitment

The AAPA, through the work of the Leadership and Professional Development Council (LAPD), is committed to developing leaders throughout the profession.

Developing a Culture of Leadership Excellence in the AAPA

The Leadership and Professional Development prepared a position paper to support a resolution to the House of Delegates. The resolution proposes a philosophy of leadership for the Academy, and explains the need for the resolution. The philosophy is based upon the following four principles:

  • Leadership is defined by knowledge, skills, and abilities, rather than by position or title.
  • The core competencies of leadership can be learned, and the learning is a life-long process.
  • PA leaders value diversity and practice inclusion.
  • PA leaders identify and mentor future PA leaders.
