AAPA and the Society of Hospital Medicine invite you to the perfect course for PAs new to hospital medicine and those who want to brush up on commonly encountered diagnoses and diseases of adult hospitalized patients. Boot Camp covers current, evidence-based topics in hospital medicine and provides a great opportunity to network with like-minded practitioners. 

The course builds on the success of prior boot camp programs and has been approved for a maximum of 35.75 AAPA Category 1 CME credits.

*Hospital Medicine 101

Oct. 1, 2014: 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. lunch included

This full-day pre-course is geared specifically for NPs or PAs new to hospital medicine. This course will focus on common problems new employees often face (and often are not taught in school), such as how to employ critical thinking and how to respond to acute situations in the hospital. Attendees will learn how to quickly collect data and narrow down a differential diagnosis based on clues from the patient's history and hospitalization, and how to develop a treatment plan.

*The titles and learning objectives for the Hospital Medicine 101 pre-course are adapted from the Hospital Medicine 101 Pre-Course developed by Jina A. Saltzman, PA-C and Jeanne M. Farnan, MD, MHPE.

General course

There is no single-day pricing for this course.

  • AAPA/Society of Hospital Medicine member: $850
  • Nonmember: $1,125

Registration includes 4 breakfasts, 2 lunches and all breaks. You will also receive access to a free, online self-assessment CME activity approved for 5 AAPA Category 1 Self-Assessment CME credits.   

Housing and transportation 

We've reserved a block of rooms at The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta, 210 Peachtree St. N.W. Atlanta, GA 30303, under the Adult Hospital Medicine Boot Camp group code. This block will be held until Sept. 15, 2014, or until the room block is filled. We cannot guarantee any rooms after the cutoff date. 

The hotel does not provide shuttle service, but there are ground transportation options from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to the hotel.

  • The Atlanta Airports Shuttle Service (404-941-3441): Services 6 a.m. - 12 .a.m. Service to the airport before 6 a.m. requires a reservation of 3 persons or more in advance. Shuttle services the Westin at :12 and :42 of each hour. One way - $16.50, round trip - $29. All prices are per person.
  • Taxi - estimated $33.50 one way +$2 for each additional person
  • Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA): one way - $2.50, round trip - $5. You will first need to purchase a Breeze Card (ride pass) for $1 at the MARTA station and add money for the trip at the kiosk. The Peachtree Center Station is the closest stop to the Westin and is about 0.1 miles from the hotel.  

Conference registration and handouts  

Registration is open 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Registration reopens Thursday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 a.m. Please remember there is no paper syllabus for this course. If you want paper copies to follow the lecture, be sure to print them before coming to the conference. Lecture materials are available under "My Curriculum" at AAPA's Learning Central. Additional and updated materials will be posted to the Learning Central page.

Optional self-assessment CME activity

As a registrant for the Adult Hospital Medicine Boot Camp, you have access to a free, online self-assessment activity. The 2014 Adult Hospital Medicine Boot Camp Self-Assessment activity has been reviewed and is approved for a maximum of 5 AAPA Category 1 Self-Assessment CME credits by the Physician Assistant Review Panel. The self-assessment activity will be available on Learning Central on Sept. 15. Please use the following steps to complete the 2014 Adult Hospital Medicine Boot Camp Self-Assessment activity. 

  • Log on to Learning Central using your AAPA username and password. If you don't know your user credentials, or are unable to log in, please contact Learning Central Support
  • Click the "My Curriculum" tab and select the 2014 Adult Hospital Medicine Boot Camp Self-Assessment activity.
  • Click on the yellow "Select" or "Resume" button on the top right of the page. 
  • Navigate to the pretest section. This pretest MUST be completion prior to midnight on Thursday, Oct. 2.  
  • After the conference, complete the post-test. You will have until Nov. 7, 2014 to complete the post-test. 
  • Upon successful completion, you CME certificate is generated. You MUST complete both the pretest and the post-tests, and score at least 70 percent on the post-test, to earn AAPA Category 1 Self-Assessment CME credit.

How to get your certificate

You will receive your conference certificate after completing the course evaluation. The evaluation will be available on Learning Central on Oct. 5. You will have until midnight on Nov. 7 to complete the evaluation. Please use the following steps to complete the conference evaluation and receive your CME certificate:

  • Log on to Learning Central using your AAPA username and password. If you don't know your user credentials, or are unable to log in, please contact Heiwote Aberra.  
  • Click the "My Curriculum" tab and select The Sixth Annual Adult Hospital Medicine Boot Camp Course or 2014 Hospital Medicine 101 Pre-Course.
  • Click on the yellow "Select" or "Resume" button on the top right of the page. 
  • Navigate to the "Evaluation" section and click on the "Launch" button to open and complete the survey.
  • View your certificate under "My Transcript."

Cancellation/ refund policy/ disclaimer

1. We give a full refund, less a 25 percent processing fee, for cancellations received at least 30 days prior to a conference or seminar. 

2. We give a 50 percent refund for cancellations received fewer than 30 days prior to a conference or seminar. 

3. We do not give refunds or credits for no-shows and cancellation notifications received after the conference or seminar is held. However, the conference manager can make exceptions.
