The Outstanding Student Society Award recognizes three student societies for outstanding service to the profession in the areas of public education, public service, promotion of diversity, and professional involvement.
Three student societies will be chosen as the award recipients. Each will receive $500. These awards are supported by the Student Academy.
Application Deadline is January 15, 2010.
- Novice Outstanding Student Society Award: 0 to 3 years continuous registration as a student society with the Student Academy
- Rising Outstanding Student Society Award: 4 to 7 years continuous registration as a student society with the Student Academy
- Master Outstanding Student Society Award: Greater than 7 years continuous registration as a student society with the Student Academy
As of June 10, 2009, in order to participate in the Outstanding Student Society Award each PA program will be required to have at least 55% AAPA student membership of the current PA student enrollment in that PA program. This requirement will increase by 5% each year for the next five years.
Entry/Nomination Procedures
Entries may be submitted by a student society officer, who must be an AAPA member, to the attention of the Student Academy in care of the AAPA national office. Entries must be received by January 15. An entry must be in scrapbook or CD with a PowerPoint presentation documenting the activities of the student society for the past academic year.
Judging Procedures
The Student Board of Directors (SBOD) will evaluate each entry at its spring meeting. The decision will be announced at the Student Academy Assembly of Representatives meeting at AAPA's Annual PA Conference.
The SBOD will judge the scrapbooks and presentations on the details that they provide about the following:
- Public service accomplished by the student society
- Public education by student society
- Activities that promote diversity within the community and the profession
- Participation in professional and leadership activities at local, regional, state, and national levels
- Contribution to the society's own students and program
- Appears, creativity and effective use of photos and graphics.
