AAPA Strategic Management Directions 2007-2008

The American Academy of Physician Assistants identifies its Strategic Management Directions to guide the actions of its board, committees, and councils. The Strategic Management Directions for the 2007-2008 leadership year are as follows:

Strengthen and Promote the PA Profession

  1. Promote the role and contribution of PAs to patients, employers, and policy makers.
  2. Enhance initial and continuing PA education with respect to clinical knowledge, practice-related knowledge, and knowledge and use of technology.
  3. Maintain consistent high standards for certification and accreditation.
  4. Strengthen our strategic alliances on important health care issues with physician groups, employer groups, health care policy groups, and health care advocacy groups.

Strengthen Physician-PA Team Practice

  1. Promote the optimal utilization of the physician-PA team by removing obstacles to appropriate practice.
  2. Assure that the interests of the physician-PA team are adequately represented in a rapidly changing and increasingly managed health care system.

Strengthen National and International Health Care Systems

  1. Work to advance the concept of PAs as worldwide leaders in the delivery of medical care.
  2. Expand the PA leadership role in the formation of health legislation and policy and in patient care.
  3. Promote appropriate access to high-quality, cost-effective health care services for all people.
  4. Ensure that the patient remains the focus in all deliberations regarding health care issues.
  5. Ensure quality in the delivery of heath care.

Strengthen the AAPA and Its Constituent Organizations

  1. Strengthen AAPA's constituent components, including chapters, specialty organizations, caucuses, special interest groups, SAAAPA, and the PA Foundation.
  2. Identify, develop, and promote the value of AAPA membership.

Cross-cutting Concerns

Diversity - Promote an inclusive environment that maximizes and encourages diversity. Promote cultural competency in patient care and educate PAs in the precepts of these competencies

Leadership - Create a culture that values, recognizes, and encourages leadership in all its capacities. Promote the professional and personal development of PAs as leaders in their workplaces, local and global communities, constituent organizations, and AAPA
