The Society is governed by a Board of Trustees of at least nine (9) and no more than twelve (12) members excluding ex-officio and emeritus members.  The Board of Trustees may delegate to officers of the Society, committees or other agents, such powers as they see fit for the direction and oversight of the affairs of the Society. Trustees shall be appointed by and may be removed, all at the pleasure of the BOARD OF TRUSTEES of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Inc.  The AAPA Executive Vice President serves as an ex-officio Trustee of the Society. The AAPA BOARD OF TRUSTEES may appoint an additional ex-officio member to the Society Board of Trustees.

The term of office for the Immediate Past President, President and President-elect may each be one (1) year with three (3) years in succession. The Secretary/Treasurer may serve a two (2) year term. All other Trustees terms may be three (3) years. A Trustee may serve (two) 2 consecutive terms or a total of six (6) years. In the case of special appointments, a Trustee may seek one additional term by submitting a request in writing to the Secretary of the BOARD OF TRUSTEES of the American Academy of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Trustees may serve two (2) consecutive terms.

Except for ex-officio and emeritus members of the Board of Trustees (who may or may not be members in good standing of AAPA) all other Trustees shall be members in good standing of the AAPA for the duration of their term.

The Board of Trustees shall hold regular meetings, at least twice in each calendar year. Attendance at Board of Trustees meetings is expected of all members of the board, unless excused by the President.  A simple majority of the board members present shall constitute a quorum for the purposes of transacting business at a meeting of the Board of Trustees.
