Annual 5k Fun Walk/Run

PAs Together – Running for Communities

"This year, I hope that however small, every walker/runner is able to get at least one supporter for this event…this is all about supporting humanitarian needs in our communities and globally – we are PAs together, running for communities!   Please join us in this annual event ."
Kent Wallace, PA Foundation President

The Healthy Mornings Annual Fun Walk/Run was once again a great success.  It was a muggy and humid morning, even though, 750 runners came out to attend the event at 5:45 in the morning!  27 teams in total raised funds, of which the Duke PA Class of 2009 raised the most funds, and Team Advance and the Arizona State Association of PAs Roadrunners followed up. “Our class became excited about participating in the AAPA Run/Walk in October, when we first started looking into the various conference events.  We actually organized a group of people who wanted to participate and we “trained” for the event, getting together after class a couple of times each week to jog.  Preparing for the fun run became a way for our class to get out and be active after sitting in lecture all day long, and it was also a great bonding experience.  We requested pledges from family, friends, and other supporters of our program through the AAPA Run/Walk website and through email.  The Duke PA program faculty was especially supportive of our team, providing kind words of encouragement as well as pledges.  On the day of the race, 24 Duke PA students were at the course and ready to go at 6:30 AM.  Everyone completed the race, and many of us energetically cheered on our teammates and other run/walkers as they reached the finish line.   Many of my classmates have commented on how much fun the event was and how glad they were that they raised money for such a worthy cause.”  Cassie Kolstad, PA-S, Duke University Medical Center

Approximately 150 individual runners raised funds, and the top individual was Michael Dombrowski, who raised $2,428, with runners up:  Michael Gerchufsky and Jennifer Madonia.  Michelle DiBaise states: ASAPA Roadrunners team was well-supported by students, friends and faculty.  Emily Dehn and I were both happy that we finished the run but mostly we were happy to support the good works of the Foundation through our fundraising efforts.  The focus of this event is to come out and have fun; however you can also have fun leading up to it by receiving pledges and donations for your run!  The Foundation gives these donations back to PAs and PA students in the form of grants and scholarships.

We look forward to your participation in the annual Fun Walk/Run in San Diego!
