Those interested in volunteering should not travel to the area unless they are part of a Disaster Management Assistance Team or effort organized by an established humanitarian or government organization. However, the US Department of Health and Human Services is logging every offer of assistance and asks those interested in volunteering to register. The agency said that there has been “an outpouring” of offers from the medical community to assist in Haiti. The White House is asking for health care professionals who can speak Creole and are available for deployment within the next few days to go online and fill out a form, ignoring the SEIU specific questions. Volunteers must be able to report to Miami.

AAPA’s guidelines for international medical volunteerism can be found here.
