Resources The following is a list of resources related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), provided to AAPA by HIPAA project staff at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
- CMS Web site: www.cms.hhs.gov/HIPAAGenInfo/. Includes a model compliance extension form, responses to frequently asked questions, links to other HIPAA sites, and information on regulations and the law.
- Free video: CMS Meeting the HIPAA Challenge: Implementing the Administrative Simplifications of HIPAA. To receive a copy, e-mail your request to askhipaa@cms.hhs.gov or call 410/786-4232.
- Free electronic mailing list: Sign up at http://aspe.hhs.gov/admnsimp/lsnotify.htm to receive notification when proposed or final rules on HIPAA have been published in the Federal Register.
- CMS e-mail box: askhipaa@cms.hhs.gov. Send your questions on HIPAA administrative simplification.
- CMS HIPAA Hotline: Call 410/786-4232 for answers to your HIPAA administrative simplification questions.
- Privacy-related information: www.hhs.gov/ocr/whatsnew.html. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office For Civil Rights oversees HIPAA's privacy requirements. Privacy-related questions should be directed to ocrprivacy@hhs.gov or call 866/627-7748.
