CME - Continuing Medical Education
| Athletic Trainer Credit at Conference |
 |
Once again AAPA's annual conference will include a number of sessions designated for athletic trainer credit. Although the conference program is not yet finalized, preliminary review indicates that approximately 100 sessions will be approved for ATC credit as well as CME credit. |
CME
Attendance Certificates will NOT be available on-site in San Francisco
. Individuals who MUST have certificates for their employers immediately
on their return from the conference should see AAPA staff at the CME
booth in the PAvilion, Hall A, Moscone Convention Center. CME Attendance
Certificates will be available for two years after the conference via
the AAPA 's Web site, www.aapa.org
. All registrants will receive CME Planners to assist in tracking
attendance. Certificates for workshops are NOT available via the Web
site because they require separate registration. Workshop certificates
are available at the immediate conclusion of each workshop in return
for a completed evaluation form when you depart the workshop.
To
ensure that syllabus materials are timely, syllabus materials for CME
sessions, with the exception of workshops and adjunct symposia, will
only be available from the AAPA Conference Web site. If you wish to
have free print copies of the materials, it is your responsibility to
print them before reaching San Francisco , whether you preregister or
register on-site. Plan your schedule early and allow plenty of time
to print out the syllabus submissions for those sessions you will attend.
Syllabus materials are posted immediately on receipt from the faculty
and will remain on the conference Web site for one year. You will NOT
be able to print syllabus materials at the Message Center in the convention
center. Syllabus materials for the workshops and adjunct symposia are
distributed to registrants during the workshops/symposia.

Thank
you for your interest in AAPA's 34 th Annual Physician Assistant Conference,
to be held May 27- June 1, 2006 in San Francisco . With nearly 40,000
members - and more than 7,500 PAs expected to attend our annual conference
- AAPA is your link to this influential and growing profession.
PAs
work as a team with their supervising physicians in all medical and
surgical specialties. Each year, PAs write more than 250 million prescriptions
and provide more than 200 million patient visits. In addition, PAs make
hundreds of millions of OTC recommendations a year. The approximately
55,000 PAs currently in practice are represented by a single
national association - the AAPA.
A
recent survey has indicated that PAs at AAPA's Annual PA Conference
attend, on average, more than 27 hours of CME ! Adjunct symposia play
an integral role in allowing attendees the ability to earn this much
CME credit.
The
American Academy of Physician Assistants offers members of the health
care industry the opportunity to support adjunct symposia - CME programs
held in conjunction with the conference but scheduled outside the official
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. CME day. All CME adjunct symposia must be held in
compliance with the attached guidelines as well as AAPA's CME Standards
for Commercial Support of Live Programs. For your information, AAPA's
CME standards are adapted from AC CME 's Standards for Commercial Support
of Continuing Medical Education and have been formulated to provide
fair, consistent polices for those CME symposia supported by the pharmaceutical
industry.
The
application form for the adjunct symposia requires a complete description
of educational objectives; length of activity; preferred date of activity;
and identification of program faculty, grantor, and provider. A written
confirmation of support from the grantor must also accompany the proposal
form.
The
on-line proposal form can be found at http://www.formsite.com/aapa/adjunctproposal
and the deadline is January 11, 2006.
Once you have completed the form, don't forget to send an e-mail or
fax to me with current speaker curriculum vitae and the grantor support
letter.
Lauren
Miller is the primary point of contact for adjunct symposia. She may
be contacted at 703/836-2272 ext. 3430 or via e-mail at lmiller@aapa.org
. During Lauren's absence, if you have questions, contact Shelley
Hicks at 703/836-2272, ext. 3402 or via e-mail at shelley@aapa.org
.
We look forward
to the opportunity to work with you!

Symposium Registration |
Registration
for adjunct breakfast and dinner symposia supported by pharmaceutical
companies will be managed by AAPA. All attendees preregistered by March
15 will receive an e-mail containing a personalized link to the on-line
registration form. A few simple clicks is all that is required to sign
you up for the sessions of your choice. Some sessions sell out early,
so be on the lookout for this important e-mail - and DO NOT delete it!
Even if you're not ready to sign up when the e-mail arrives, the link
stays active and you can use it at any time to add or change your adjunct
registration until registration closes on May 11. Adding these sessions
to your on-line scheduler does not sign you up for the class - you must
register using this link.
Tickets
for each session will be included in your badge envelope to be picked
up on-site in San Francisco . Because these are CME sessions, keep in
mind that it is not appropriate to bring spouses/guests. Registration
is offered at no additional charge, but please be considerate of your
fellow PAs and do not sign up for a session you do not definitely
plan to attend.
Workshops
provide small, comfortable settings to learn new information and skills
as well as review information and skills important to practicing PAs.
Workshops are designed to allow more one-on-one participation as well
as hands-on learning experiences. All workshops require reservation
of a slot. Fees for workshops range in cost, depending on the cost of
providing the workshops (faculty, supplies, equipment, etc.). The fees
set for the various workshops are set as low as possible and do NOT
actually cover the entire cost of providing the workshops.
AAPA
will again provide on-line workshop preregistration between April 24
and May 11, if you are preregistered for the conference. Workshop registration
will open to AAPA fellow members only on-line on April 24, and will
remain open through May 11. Advance on-line workshop registration is
only available by credit card. You will receive your workshop tickets
on-site with your badge envelope. To receive a refund of workshop registration,
you must cancel by Thursday, May 11. A very limited number of workshop
slots will be available for purchase on-site beginning the first day
of conference registration - Friday, May 26 - for AAPA fellow member
registrants. Exhibit-Hall-only registrants and non-registered conference
attendees may NOT attend workshops. All other registration categories
may register for workshops on-site on a space-available basis beginning
two hours before the scheduled workshop start time on the day of the
workshop, depending on availability.
Watch
AAPA News and your e-mail for updates and detailed instructions about
on-line workshop registration.
